SAP Fioneer adds physical risk capability to its ESG KPI Engine
Risk Management Partners by Munich Re to provide data
Walldorf, May 16, 2024 – SAP Fioneer, a leading global provider of financial services software solutions and platforms, has announced the addition of Physical Risks to the ESG KPI Engine. Following the launch of the ESG KPI Engine in September 2023 with a focus on financed emissions, the new physical risk capability extends the KPI Engines capability from climate mitigation to climate adaptation.
Physical risks are those related to the physical impacts of climate change such as increased frequency and severity of extreme weather events (e.g. wildfires, cyclones, hurricanes, floods). By joining forces with Munich Re’s Risk Management Partners as a data provider, the ESG KPI Engine can use up-to-date climate-related data for individual locations or entire portfolios which will enable the documentation of associated exposure to these risks based on scientific evidence.
The ESG KPI Engine is continuously updated as requirements evolve and enables banks to fulfill regulatory requirements like the EBA Pillar 3 disclosure, ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board) and CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) reporting. The latter will come into force in 2024 and 2025 for many banks operating in the EU and legally require them for the first time to include reliable and auditable sustainability data alongside financial information in their annual reports. Both financed emissions and physical risks are critical data points for banks & insurers to understand their climate-related financial risks and unlock new opportunities with customers.
