Digital euro solution for retail banks and PSPs

Banks offering payment accounts in the euro zone will have to support the digital euro. But it’s more than an obligation: customers choose and switch their provider, so the best experience wins the relationship. The SAP Fioneer Digital Euro Hub delivers the entire backend as standard software: wallet management, DESP connectivity, and payment orchestration, so your teams focus on what wins customers, not into digital euro compliance.

A foundation banks already trust

You shouldn’t bet your digital euro readiness on unproven software. The Digital Euro Hub is built on a foundation that’s anything but.

How the Digital Euro Hub works

The Digital Euro Hub is built on proven SAP Fioneer banking and payments software, extended with everything the digital euro needs. One layer manages the digital euro wallets: the Digital Euro Account Number (DEAN), the link to the customer’s bank account, and holding limits. The other connects you to the ECB’s Digital Euro Service Platform (DESP) and processes every payment. Your channels plug in via APIs so that the customer experience stays with you.

Four reasons why banks build the digital euro with us

The digital euro is mandatory for euro-area banks – pilot in 2027, full rollout in 2029. The real integration window is 18–24 months, and it’s already open. Here’s how the Digital Euro Hub keeps the lift small and the value lasting.

End-to-end coverage on one platform

The Digital Euro Hub is the complete solution in a box: access, liquidity, and transaction management on one platform, with DESP connectivity and shadow accounting built in. It covers both the distributing and acquiring side.

Lower risk on proven components

The Digital Euro Hub blends proven SAP Fioneer core banking and payments components with a digital-euro-specific layer – the same technology handling high-volume instant payments in production today. And it’s core-agnostic: it works with whatever you run.

One platform, from pilot to full rollout

Build for the pilot once, and you’ve built for the full rollout – nothing gets thrown away. You stay free to retain, replace, or extend any part of the Digital Euro Hub. Not in the pilot? The Digital Euro Hub carries those learnings built in.

No disruption to programs in flight

The Digital Euro Hub runs in parallel to your landscape on a dedicated, side-by-side instance. A core banking transformation or S/4HANA upgrade stays untouched – no program at risk, no teams pulled away.

Capabilities that make a difference

Access management

The Digital Euro Hub covers the full access lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, linkage between wallet and cash account, and user lifecycle management – exposed as APIs, so every process runs inside your existing channels.

Liquidity management

Funding and defunding move money between the digital euro wallet and the linked bank account – automatically where needed: waterfall and reverse waterfall handle amounts above the holding limit in line with ECB rules.

Transaction management

Payment requests, transaction initiation, and refunds are processed end to end by the Digital Euro Hub – with the remaining digital euro scope, such as recurring payments and reservations, added incrementally through the product roadmap.

Wallet and DEAN handling

The Digital Euro Hub manages digital euro wallets and the full Digital Euro Account Number (DEAN) lifecycle: request via the ECB platform, alias management, use in payment flows, and compliant data retention. No additional component to integrate.

Standardized DESP connectivity

A maintained, standardized connection to the European Central Bank’s Digital Euro Service Platform (DESP) – kept current with evolving ECB specifications as product updates, not as custom integration projects.

Integrated channels

Standardized APIs integrate the Digital Euro Hub into your relevant channels – online banking, mobile app, and point-of-interaction or POS partners on the merchant side – so the customer experience stays fully in your hands.

The Digital Euro doesn’t need to become another project on your roadmap. Our Digital Euro Hub takes care of the heavy lifting, giving your team a ready-to-deploy foundation without the need to build everything from scratch.”
